Employee Retires After 45 Years
After more than 45 years of service, Sandra Richbourg, an administrative assistant with Wake County Human Services, retired on October 31, 2013. Richbourg was recognized by the Board of Commissioners Monday, October 21, 2013, as Wake’s longest-tenured current employee.

Richbourg started in March 1968 as a clerk typist. She has spent the last 35 years as an administrative assistant working in child welfare.

"When I began, we were using Royal manual typewriters and we had fewer employees," she said. "I have enjoyed working for the County and seeing it change."

Most notably, Richbourg served as the child welfare historian by protecting boxes of index cards documenting several generations of children who predate the computerized database. This ensured that no child or family was forgotten.

Richbourg plans to spend the first few months with family and friends and then intends to volunteer and travel.

Pictures of Richbourg are available on facebook.com/wakegov.
