Wake County Commissioners recently adopted an ordinance to rename a portion of Falls of Neuse Road that extends through unincorporated areas of the County. As of Tuesday, October 15, 2013, the 2.5-mile, two-lane portion of Falls of Neuse Road has been renamed Old Falls of Neuse Road. The four-lane thoroughfare will be identified as Falls of Neuse Road.
The reason for the name change is to reduce confusion for motorists, public safety responders and the general public that may arise due to the realigned streets and reconfigured road names.
During the last two years, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the City of Raleigh constructed a new section of roadway with a new bridge over the Neuse River that connected Falls of Neuse Road with New Falls of Neuse Road. In conjunction with a road-widening project, the joining of these road sections created a direct, continuous four-lane major thoroughfare between North Raleigh and Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest.
Residents affected by the road name change were notified prior to the change being approved. Street address numbers will not change.
