Community Asked to Participate in Manager Search

Wake County Commissioners invite the public, community partners and employees to participate in the process of hiring a new County Manager by completing a short survey. The survey is available from now through midnight Sunday, September 22, 2013, and includes three open-ended questions:

  1. What qualifications, competencies, and/or abilities should the County Manager possess?
  2. What challenges and opportunities is Wake County facing today and/or in the future?
  3. If you could interview the candidate being considered for the position of County Manager, what would you ask him/her?

"As Wake County continues to grow by 25,000 to 30,000 people per year, it is important that we select an individual who has the leadership skills to meet both the challenges of today and the future," said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Joe Bryan. "We invite everyone who lives or works in Wake County to participate in the survey. Your thoughtful response will be most helpful."

The survey is available here and links will be available through the WakeGOV social media channels. People who prefer hard copies can pick them up at libraries and other county facilities. Residents are also invited to mail their feedback to the address below.

The County Manager is responsible for general administration of all County departments and agencies under the guidance of the Board of Commissioners and for maintaining effective relationships with partner organizations. Communicating with groups, partners, press, Board and employees is a major function of the County Manager. The County Manager also advises the Commissioners on financial matters and services and implements Commissioners' policies and goals.

Feedback from the three question survey will help the Board of Commissioners develop a candidate profile and aid them as they work to select a new County Manager.

In late July, Wake County Manager David Cooke told Commissioners he would be retiring at the end of November.
