Tuesday, October 2 – Thursday, Oct. 4, 1 - 4 p.m. – Aquatic Adventures
Children grades K-5 are invited to visit Crowder District Park to track out at Crowder. Participants can join in on the Aquatic Adventures for one, two or all three days, and experience hands-on, outdoor science and learn about all about the water cycle, water power and the critters that call our pond home. Saturday, October 6, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Heritage Day
Visit Historic Oak View County Park to celebrate Heritage Day. There will be live music, animals, cane pole fishing, antique cars, carriage rides, heritage crafts, antique tractors, re-enactors and more. Capital Quilters Guild will display quilts and hold a quilt auction at 2 p.m. This event is free. For information, call 919-250-1013. Saturday, October 13, 1-3 p.m. – Natural Play Area “Grand Opening"
Children, ages 8 and under, are invited to Blue Jay Point County Park to visit the newest attraction, the Natural Play Area, and learn about this popular new trend in children’s play. Children can enjoy cookies, face painting and a short “Woodland Bingo” scavenger hunt. The Natural Play Area is located next to the picnic area – just follow the wooden ‘Natural Play Area’ signs. Thursday, October 25, 2-3 p.m. – Pumpkinpalooza!
Children, ages 7 to 9, are invited to Historic Yates Mill County Park to discover the story of our favorite autumn gourds. Children will paint pumpkins to take home and discover what lies beneath the rind. Participants will go on a pumpkin hunt, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The fee is $4 per child. Friday, October 26, 4-7 p.m. and night hikes 7-8:30 p.m. – Creepy Crabtree Celebration
Families are invited to Lake Crabtree to investigate the spookier side of nature. Participants will learn about bats, snakes and spiders and explore the park on a haunted hike. For information, call 919-460-3355. Lake Crabtree is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville.
Sunday, October 28, 2 and 3 p.m. – Hayride and Pumpkin Carving
Enjoy a fall hayride while traveling through to the Longleaf Forest in search of a pumpkin at Harris Lake County Park. After the hayride, enjoy hot chocolate while carving a pumpkin. The fee is $10 per family with a pumpkin or $5 per family without a pumpkin (hayride only). Registration is required. For information, call 919-387-4342.
