Monday Deadline Set to Apply for WakeSUPPORTS Childcare and Remote Learning Assistance Program

Payments up to $870 per month available for eligible families

Households struggling to cover the new and unexpected costs of childcare or remote learning supervision during the pandemic have until Monday, Nov. 30, to submit their application for the WakeSUPPORTS program.

“We know the COVID-19 pandemic has deeply impacted the lives of parents and students across our county, as shown by the flood of applications we received after launching this program,” said Wake County Commissioner Susan Evans. “We want ensure everyone knows this assistance is still available until the end of this month and encourage any households struggling to pay for childcare to apply by Monday’s deadline.”

Since its launch on Oct. 26, nearly 200 families impacted by COVID-19 have been helped by the program.

WakeSUPPORTS works in partnership with the Emergency School Age Family Support Program, which the N.C. Division of Child Development and Early Education launched on Oct. 23. The state’s program covers childcare or support for the months of October and November, while Wake County’s program assists with expenses incurred from Aug. 17 – when public school started – through Sept. 30, and during the month of December 2020.

The program is supported by CARES Act funding.

To qualify, households must:

  • Live in Wake County;
  • Have a child in kindergarten through sixth grade;
  • Have been impacted by COVID-19; and
  • Fall in a low-to-moderate income category as reflected in the 2020 HUD income levels for our region.

In addition to the applicants meeting eligibility criteria, the childcare provider who receives the direct payment must meet state-mandated qualifications. Payments to providers can range from $516 to $870 per month per child, depending on the type of facility they attend.
