Wake Libraries to Offer Out-of-this-World Opportunities this Summer

Blast off to new places with the Wake County Public Libraries’ Summer Reading Program, now under way. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories,” and it includes exciting opportunities to read great books and participate in out-of-this-world activities.

“Summer is the perfect time to read for pleasure and discover the free events offered at your local public library,” said Ann Burlingame, deputy director of Wake County Public Libraries.  “From toddlers to seniors, our Summer Reading Program offers something for everyone to enjoy.”

School-aged Children Grades K–5: Grab a STAR LOG at your local library and travel to the moon. Earn stamps when you talk to librarians about a favorite book or attend a program. Complete three activities on your STAR LOG, and you may enter for a weekly prize drawing.

Teens: You’ll be entered in our program and weekly prize drawings when you check out three or more books, attend a teen program at a regional library, open a new library account or participate in Teen Leadership Corps. Prizes include gift certificates to theaters, sporting events, amusement parks and more.

Adults: You’ll be entered in our program and weekly prize drawings when you check out three or more books, attend an adult program at a regional library, open a new library account, complete our summer reading crossword puzzle or make a service appointment to meet with a librarian.

Young Child: Wondering what we've got lined up for young children? Ask your librarian about Play Your Way to K, a brand-new Kindergarten readiness game that incorporates talking, singing, reading, writing and playing toward a successful launch to kindergarten. Stop by any library to pick up a game board, and continue the excitement of storytime at home!

The Summer Reading Program runs through Aug. 31, and residents are welcome to get involved at any time.
