Saturday, October 3, 9-10:30 a.m. – Migration Mania
Learn about bird migration and take an easy-paced stroll along the American Tobacco Trail. Participants will learn to look for birds and learn how to identify them. Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. – Heritage Day
Enjoy a day of old-fashioned fun during the Heritage Festival at Historic Oak View County Park. There will be live animals, cane pole fishing, carriage rides, heritage crafts, a quilt display, live music, antique cars and tractors, and more. Food will be available for purchase. Sunday, October 11, 3-4:30 p.m. – Spectacular Spiders
Spiders are spooky to some people, but they are also helpful. Take a look at some cool spiders and make a spider craft to take home. Meet at Crowder District Park’s Pavilion. For information, call 919-662-2850. Crowder District Park is located at 4709 Ten-Ten Road, Apex.

Saturday, October 17, 9:30-11 a.m. – A Little Bit Squirrelly
In late October, bushy tails and acorns are everywhere! Join staff at Blue Jay Point County Park to learn about North Carolina’s state mammal. Saturday, October 17, 2-6 p.m. – Haunting at Harris
Come dressed in your Halloween best and meet at Harris Lake County Park’s Longleaf Shelter to play haunting games, carve a pumpkin (one pumpkin per family) and much more. Take a hay wagon ride along the yellow brick road in the Land of Oz. Along the way, all sorts of twists and turns await. Tickets for the hay wagon will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free. For information, call 919-387-4342. Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. – October Stills and Spirits: Cider-Sipping Social
View an antique cider press and whiskey still, and explore how corn and other harvest produce are transformed into beverages. Participants can also sample fresh cider. The event is free. Saturday, October 17, 1-5 p.m. – Rain Barrel Workshops
Do your part to conserve water by making a rain barrel. Take home a fully functional 55-gallon rain barrel with installation kit. The cost is $40 per barrel.
