NEWS: Wake to Open Reception Center at Garner United Methodist Church

In response to flash flooding in the Raleigh and Garner areas, Wake County is opening a reception center at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Drive, Garner. Directions are listed below.

"We are encouraging anyone who is in a flood-prone area to come to the reception center," said Josh Creighton, Wake County Emergency Management director. "We encourage people not to drive on flooded roadways and to use the reception center if they are in danger from flash flooding."

Cots, blankets and pillows will be provided. Individuals should bring:

  • identification and important personal documents;
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  • any needed medications
  • feeding formula and diapers for infants
  • a change of clothing;
  • and books, games and simple toys for children.

Directions
From Raleigh’s I-440 Beltline:
Take the South Saunders Street exit east toward Garner/Fayetteville. South Saunders St becomes Hwy 70 East. Follow Hwy 70 East. Then, take the Vandora Springs Rd. exit and turn left at the stoplight. Turn right onto Methodist Dr.

From I-40:
Take the Hwy 70 West/Garner exit. Next, take the Vandora Springs Rd. exit and turn right. Then, turn right onto Methodist Dr.

From Hwy 401 South:
Turn right onto Mechanical Blvd. Next, turn right onto Hwy 70 East. Then, take the Vandora Springs Rd. exit and turn left at the stoplight. Turn right onto Methodist Dr.

From Garner Road:
Turn onto Vandora Springs Rd. Then, turn onto Methodist Dr.
