Monday, January 5, 9-11 a.m. – Christmas Bird Count at Blue Jay Point
Join Blue Jay Point County Park Manager Deborah Robertson to learn the ins and outs of doing a bird count, meet other local volunteers and hone your birding skills during this annual event. Dress for the outdoors and be prepared to hike. This program is designed for adults. To pre-register, call 870-4330. Blue Jay Point Park is located at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road, Raleigh.
Monday, January 5, 9-11 a.m. – Christmas Bird Count for Kids
Blue Jay staff will lead a Christmas Bird Count for Kids for children of adults participating in the Christmas Bird Count. Children will learn binocular basics and feeder watching, play bird games to practice identification by sight and sound. Dress for the outdoors. The event is for kids ages 5-12. Tuesday, January 20, 2-3 p.m. – Tuesday Teasers
Parents and kids are invited to get a little taste of nature and learn about specific nature topics during monthly Tuesday programs at Harris Lake Park. In January, participants will learn where the animals go during the winter. Meet at the Cypress Shelter. Programs are interactive and may include a short hike and/or craft. To pre-register, call 387-4343. The program is $3 per person or $5 per family. Harris Lake County Park is located at 2112 County Park Drive, New Hill.
Saturday, January 31, 2-3 p.m. – Busy Beavers
Come to the American Tobacco Trail and explore the busy life of beavers -- how they are perfectly suited for a life of aquatic living -- and lots of other cool facts that will leave you "chomping" for more. Advance registration is required. For information, call 387-2117. This program is $3 per person or $5 per family. The program takes place at the New Hill parking lot, located at 1309 New Hill-Olive Chapel Road, Apex.

Are you willing to donate some time and energy to Historic Yates Mill County Park? There are many volunteer opportunities available. Prepare for Groundhog Day on February 2, by hearing tales and stories about many of nature’s animals as they sleep through the winter months. Participants will look for, and make, their own animal track. A pre-registration fee of $5 per participant is required. There is a limit of 20 participants. Come prepared for outdoor weather.
