FEATURE: Amateur Photography Contest, Abraham Lincoln Exhibit and Teen Chefs at Wake Libraries in July

Now through Friday, July 31 – County-wide Amateur Photography Contest
Amateur photographers are encouraged to submit their best photographs in the annual summer photo contest sponsored by Holly Springs Branch Library. Photographers can share their favorite pictures from any subject. Photographers of all ages are invited to participate. The deadline for submission is Friday, July 31, 2009. Sunday, July 5-Friday, July 31 – Abraham Lincoln Exhibit
Explore a new exhibit about one of the most revered figures in history. "Abraham Lincoln: A Man of his Time, a Man for All Times" is an exhibit that explores the evolution of Lincoln’s beliefs and his impact on the nation. The July 5, grand opening will feature a special visit from Mary Todd Lincoln at 1:30 p.m. For information, call 856-6711. Cameron Village Regional Library is located 1930 Clark Ave., Raleigh.

Wednesday, July 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m. – Basic Photography Lessons
Learn some basics of general photography with an emphasis on shooting outdoors, and photographing nature and wildlife with a professional photographer. For information, call 856-9598. Southgate Branch Library is located at 1601-14 Crosslink Road, Raleigh.

Thursday, July 16, 6:30-7:30 p.m. – "Top Chef"
Teens are invited to take part in a cooking contest at Wendell Public Library. All participants will prepare a dish that is required to include a special ingredient provided by library staff. Samples of the entries will be served and prizes will be awarded. For information, call 365-2600. Wendell Public Library is located at 207 S. Hollybrook Road, Wendell.

Thursday, July 16, 2-3 p.m. – Story time at Marbles
Parents are invited to bring their children to Marbles Kids Museum to enjoy story time hour and participate in an art project. Stop by the Electronic Information Center, inside the Wake County Office Building, to pick up free vouchers. Story time at Marbles takes place on the third Thursday of every month. Enjoy free access to the museum for the remainder of the afternoon. For information, call 856-6868. Marbles Kids Museum is located at 201 E. Hargett St., Raleigh. Thursday, July 16, 4-6 p.m. – Teens Only Knitting Club
Teens ages 12 and up are invited to join other knitters and crocheters for fun and inspiration at Wake Forest Library. Bring needles and yarn or work on your own project for this afternoon knitting group. You can also show off your finished projects. All experience levels are welcome. Thursday, July 30, 5-6 p.m. – Kids’ Carnival
Join others at East Regional Library to celebrate the End-of-Summer Reading season by enjoying a carnival. The free event is for the entire family. For information, call 217-5301. East Regional Library is located at 946 Steeple Square Court, Knightdale.
