Telephone Book Recycling Program Begins
2/11/2008
Wake County Solid Waste Management began its annual Telephone Book Recycling Program on Monday, February 4, 2008, and the program will continue until Friday, May 9, 2008. This year, 21 drop-off sites are available for residents and businesses to recycle old phone books. A list of locations can be viewed online and is posted at all Solid Waste Management facilities.
In 2007, Wake County residents recycled more than 300 tons of phone books. Wake County continues to focus on product stewardship by encouraging all telephone book companies distributing in the county to take responsibility for recycling their product. This year’s product stewardship sponsors are AT&T, The Talking Phone Book, and R.H. Donnelley (the publisher of Sprint). Altogether, these companies are contributing more than $100,000 in advertising and cash to sponsor the program.
