Wake Commissioners Proclaim County Government Week, April 7-11
4/8/2008
The Wake County Board of Commissioners Monday, April 7, 2008, proclaimed the week of April 7-11, 2008, “National County Government and Wake County Government Employee Appreciation Week” in Wake County. The proclamation was made in conjunction with the National Association of Counties (NACo) National County Government Week, which is observed each year during the month of April.
This year, the theme for County Government Week is “Protecting Our Children.” Wake County has planned a public education campaign, employee participation and employee appreciation events throughout the week showcasing the work employees do to protect children and young people.
“It’s very important that citizens understand the services and programs that Wake County is responsible for and provides to them,” said Joe Bryan, Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “National County Government Week allows us to explain exactly what we do, particularly in the areas of this year’s theme, Protecting Our Children.”
The National County Government Week community awareness program will focus on all the ways the County protects children, including law enforcement, protective services, wellness programs, environmental protection and education. The County will issue a news release each day showing a different area of these efforts and encouraging all citizens to help Protect Our Children.
Wake employees are encouraged to show their support for all County programs that protect children by wearing either the County logo or the logo colors of cobalt and copper to work on Friday, April 11.
Activities are planned throughout the week to show appreciation for all Wake County employees. These events will include snack giveaways, cheer distribution and vouchers for Carolina Mudcats tickets.
Additionally, Wake is proud to announce the creation of a children’s page on the County website, WakeGOV.com. The page is designed to offer information to protect children and provide for their future with a brief history of the county, information on how County government works and a homework/project help section. The site also features educational games, activities and links to popular children’s programs.
