Wake County to Hold Mental Health Consumer Fair

1/10/2008

Wake County Human Services will host a consumer fair for adults with mental health and substance abuse challenges on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Wake County Commons building, 4011 Carya Drive, Raleigh. The fair will connect residents who need information about mental health and substance abuse services and resources to professional staff that can provide first-hand information.

"This fair is an outstanding example of Wake County Human Services working with the community to make sure our clients are connected with the services they need," said Wake County Human Services Director Ramon Rojano. "As we prepare for the closure of Dorothea Dix hospital we want to make sure that we are not leaving anybody behind."

Attendees to the Mental Health Consumer Fair will receive information on how to navigate changes to the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services System. There will also be opportunities to meet representatives from Medicaid/Food Assistance, Consumer Affairs, Holly Hill Hospital, Housing, Alcoholics Anonymous, National Alliance on Mental Illness, "Ask the Pharmacist," Social Security Administration, the JobLink Center and others. The fair will include nutrition demonstrations, fun physical activities, gift drawings and door prizes.

Free shuttle services will be provided from Wake County Human Services, 220 Swinburne Road, to the Commons Building, 4011 Carya Drive, starting at 9:30 a.m. and running every 30 minutes until 3 p.m.
