NEWS: Wake to Open New Parking Deck February 16

Wake County will open the new Wake County Parking Deck, 216 West Cabarrus Street, Raleigh on Monday, February 16, 2009. The 991 space deck, on the corner of Davie, Cabarrus and McDowell Streets, replaces the Garland H. Jones Parking Deck on Salisbury Street. Signs will direct drivers to the new facility.

The new parking deck has nine levels and includes two entrances. The main entrance/exit is on Cabarrus Street. The second entrance/exit is located on Davie Street.

The Wake County parking deck has several security systems, including: four emergency phones with video surveillance located on each level; video monitoring throughout the facility and security officers patrolling the deck. All security systems are monitored in the Wake County Security Center 24 hours per day.

The deck will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. McLaurin Parking Company will oversee deck operations and staff an attendant from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Fees at the new parking deck will be the same as fees that were charged at the Garland H. Jones Deck. Daily public parking rates are $1 for the first half- hour, $1 for the second half-hour, $1 for each additional hour with a daily maximum of $8.

Several payment options are available to visitors:

1) Pay-on-Foot: To ease the line when exiting the deck, the visiting public will be asked to keep their parking ticket and pay at one of our pay-on-foot systems. For convenience, these machines are located in both McDowell Street lobbies. These systems are similar to those used at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Cash, debit and credit cards are accepted.
2) Pay-in-Lane: Credit and debit cards are accepted at these units located at all exits; cash is not accepted at these locations.
3) Pay the attendant: Cash, debit and credit cards are accepted.

The deck opened to jurors on Monday, February 2, 2009, and employees on Monday, February 9, 2009. The Garland H. Jones deck will officially close to the public on Friday, February 13, 2009.

The deck welcomes its visitors in the North McDowell Street Lobby with a large downtown map, identifying surrounding points of interest.
