Protect Native Plants on Earth Day, April 19
4/18/2008
Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District invites residents to the Second Annual Invasive Species Round-up on Earth Day, Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 9 a.m. to noon at Prairie Ridge Ecostation for Wildlife and Learning, 4301 Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh.
Volunteers will learn about invasive plant species and how to reduce their impact on native vegetation. After a discussion, participants will improve the environment at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation by cutting invasive plants and sending them to a chipper. There will also be guided tours of Prairie Ridge and its efforts to restore native prairie, create wetland habitat, use sustainable building materials, save water and use renewable energy.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years old to participate in the work session.
The Wake Soil and Water Conservation District, in cooperation with the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, will host this event.
