4/2/2008

Are you interested in finding a home you can call your own? Take the first step towardbetter living by attending the 2008 Wake County Housing Fair on Friday, April 18, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Wake County Human Services Building, 220 Swinburne Street, Raleigh. The theme of the 2008 Wake County Housing Fair is "Our New Home, The Journey Continues," or "Nuestra Casa Nueva La Jornada Continua" in Spanish.

Human Services Director Ramon Rojano will kickoff the event with a brief address at 10 a.m.

The housing fair is designed to help renters and first-time homebuyers with a family income below $48,000 find clean, safe, affordable apartments and homes in Wake County. Last year, more than one-third of the people who attended the fair made less than $20,000 a year.

The fair also gives all Wake County citizens an opportunity to gather information on landlords, lenders, real estate agents and other housing-related businesses as well as Wake County and City of Raleigh programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend workshops, in English and Spanish, on how to handle common affordable housing barriers, such as credit, criminal history and income. Vendors will also provide information on how to pre-qualify for loans, credit counseling, job search assistance and other services.

Popcorn, drinks and prizes will be distributed throughout the day. Bilingual speaking staff will be available to help with housing information.
