FEATURE: Wake County Hosts 'Rock 4 Pets' Event on April 19

4/14/2009

Wake County is hosting the first "Rock 4 Pets" music festival at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 8003 Regency Parkway, Cary on Sunday, April 19, 2009, from noon to 5 p.m. The festival is a family-friendly event that will help raise awareness of the increasing pet overpopulation problem in the County, as well as promote animal adoptions and responsible pet ownership. This event is free and open to the public.

"The biggest and fastest way to help reverse the problem of pet overpopulation in our shelters is for owners to spay and neuter their animals," said Michael Williams, director of the County’s Animal Care, Control and Adoption Center. "Citizens can also come to the County’s shelters or go to reputable rescue groups to find a new member of the family."

Residents and animal lovers are invited to come hear local bands, meet and spend time with adoptable animals, as well as learn more about the animal care and welfare programs provided by Wake County, other local governments and nonprofit groups.

Representatives from VCA Animal Hospitals, animal behaviorists and trainers, and other organizations that promote responsible pet ownership will be available to answer pet-related questions. Local animal rescue groups will also be on site if residents are interested in adding a pet to the family.

For more information on the event, contact Michael Williams at 250-1463 or visit www.wakegov.com/pets/events/rock4pets.
