FEATURE: Cameron Village Library Hosts JobLink Workshop May 12-14

Capital Area JobLink and Cameron Village Public Library are conducting a free, three-day job-seekers workshop, beginning Tuesday, May 12, through Thursday, May 14, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Cameron Village Regional Library, 1930 Clark Ave., Raleigh.

Several sessions will be available to help job seekers, including writing winning resumes, overcoming obstacles in job hunting and dressing for success.

Job-seekers of all ages and experiences are welcome to attend. Registration is required.

Tuesday, May 12

10 a.m. – Writing a Winning Resume
Bring a copy of your resume and learn some great tips for creating a winning resume. Review words that strengthen and weaken your resume. Discover the format that works best for your situation.

2 p.m. – Job Hunting in the Triangle
Learn how to identify and effectively navigate job opportunities that exist in the local job market. Discuss advantages and disadvantages of the various job search approaches.

6:30 p.m. – Overcoming Obstacles in the Job Search
Discuss strategies for dealing with obstacles during the job search, including rethinking what represents an obstacle, as well as information on how to deal with gaps in employment, terminations and more.

Wednesday, May 13

10 a.m. – Ask an HR Professional
Get tips from Human Resources (HR) professionals on how to stand out from the crowd, get your foot in the door and avoid mistakes that job seekers commonly make.

2 p.m. – Writing a Winning Resume
Bring a copy of your resume and learn some great tips for creating a winning resume. Review words that strengthen and weaken your resume. Discover the format that works best for your situation.

6:30 p.m. – Dressing for Success
This workshop is designed to provide job seekers with knowledge on how to make a great first impression by paying attention to your appearance and grooming when going to an interview.

Thursday, May 14

10 a.m. – Skills, Attributes and Attitudes for the Workplace
Studies consistently show that, along with skills and attributes, attitude is a major factor in employment decisions. Come ready to explore and discuss what you can do to maximize your opportunities, while avoiding sabotaging yourself during the job search.

2 p.m. – Overcoming Obstacles in the Job Search
Discuss strategies for dealing with obstacles during the job search, including rethinking what represents an obstacle, as well as information on how to deal with gaps in employment, terminations and more.
