Wake to Hold Dirty Bomb Workshop
3/26/2008
The Wake County Public Safety Fire/Rescue Division will sponsor a Dirty Bomb Awareness Workshop Thursday, March 27, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Wake County Fire Training Center, 5620 Shearon Harris Road, New Hill. Members of the media are invited to interview law enforcement experts and view displays that will be set up throughout the day.
The course is designed for first-arriving fire and EMS officers at radiological incidents. Students will learn about securing "blast zones," treating victims exposed to radiation and becoming familiar with the types of equipment used in detecting dirty bomb radiation.
A dirty bomb simulation will take place Friday morning, March 28. Instructors will simulate a dirty bomb explosion and supervise student response to the emergency. Please note that due to safety concerns, this part of the workshop is closed to the media.
Experts teaching at the workshop represent the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, N.C. National Guard, State Radiation Protective Division and N.C. Department of Crime Control & Public Safety.
