A Sweet Reading List for "Wake Reads Together" 2008!
1/16/2008
Chocolate and books are a perfect combination. Whether you prefer milk, white, dark or bittersweet chocolate, there's something for everyone, regardless of taste or age. Enjoy it all by taking part in the 2008 Wake Reads Together community-wide reading program. The kickoff event is January 26, 2008, from 2-4 p.m., at the Cameron Village Regional Library, 1930 Clark Avenue, Raleigh.
Beginning in January 2008 and running through the first week of April 2008, Wake County residents are encouraged to participate in Wake Reads Together by enjoying two books: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," by Roald Dahl and "Chocolate," by JoAnne Harris. Both novels explore the desire for and the celebration of chocolate in worlds filled with magic and romantic suspense.
Wake County readers picked the theme, "A Passion for Chocolate," last fall from a slate of five possible themes. For the first time, the community reading initiative will encourage families with young children to participate in the program along with adult readers. To coincide with the theme, all Wake County libraries are planning to sponsor programs to include book discussions, ancillary programming and movies.
This is the 6th year of the popular reading project that invites all residents to read the same book at the same time and then come together to explore themes, issues and ideas. Thousands of readers typically check out the selected book and attend related programs. Wake County’s program is unique in that customers "elect" the title each year for the residents on behalf of the library.
