FEATURE: Wake to Offer One-Stop Services to Homeless October 8

Wake County Human Services will participate in the 3rd annual Project Homeless Connect on Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh. The event is part of the national Project Homeless Connect, a one-day one-stop event focused on providing homeless men, women and children with services needed to move toward self-sufficiency.
Wake County Commissioner Lindy Brown will host the event and participate in the opening ceremony, beginning at 9 a.m. She will be joined by Dr. Jean Williams, executive director of the Women’s Center of Wake County, and Wake County Human Services Director Ramon Rojano.
Project Homeless Connect Raleigh will have over 50 services available from a variety of Wake County based programs and agencies to help men, women, children and families experiencing homelessness. Services offered will include:
- Employment assistance
- Housing and food stamps
- Medical screenings
- Spiritual guidance
- Haircuts and showers
- Clothing and blankets
More than 600 participants and 100 volunteers attended Project Homeless Connect in 2007 and 2008.
Project Homeless Connect is sponsored by The Raleigh/Wake Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness. The event is supported by Wake County Human Services, the city of Raleigh, Triangle United Way, the Wake Housing and Homeless Coalition, Passage Home, Wake Hospitality Network, The Healing Place of Wake County and various community volunteers.
