Parks Announce April Programs

Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – 9th Annual Frog Fest
Leap on over to Crowder District Park for the Ninth Annual Frog Fest. This family event focuses on amphibians, reptiles, water quality and frogs. Children will enjoy meeting Walipog, the Water Quality Frog, and some of his amphibian friends. Educational games, crafts and other activities and entertainment are planned. This event is free. Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – 2008 Earth Day Celebration
Celebrate Earth Day by attending a free family festival at Harris Lake County Park. Activities include rock-wall climbing, hayrides, live animals and live music. The first 300 visitors will also receive free compact fluorescent light bulbs. For more information, call 387-4342. Harris Lake County Park is located at 2112 County Park Drive in New Hill.
Saturday, April 19, 1-4 p.m. – Celebrate Earth Day
Celebrate Earth Day by learning about renewable energy and water power at Historic Yates Mill County Park. Families will see waterwheel construction demonstrations, displays and guest speakers during this free, hands-on event. For more information, call 856-6675. Historic Yates Mill County Park is located at 4620 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh.
Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. – Songbird Celebration
Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day at Blue Jay Point County Park. This year’s theme is Tundra to Tropics: Connecting Birds, Habitats and People. Birdwatching, hikes, crafts, games and other family activities are scheduled throughout the day. A lecture on drought-resistant gardening will be offered for adults. Bring a picnic or buy lunch at the park. All activities are free; however, preregistration is required for some programs. For more information, call 870-4330.
