NEWS: Telephone Book Recycling Program Expands
1/22/2009
Wake County Environmental Services now offers year-round telephone book recycling. The program expansion will reduce costs and is expected to increase the number of telephone books recycled each year. Telephone book recycling is now available at 11 Wake County Convenience Centers and both Multi-Material Recycling facilities.
"Wake County recycled over 380 tons of phone books last year," said Environmental Services Director Tommy Esqueda. "Expanding to year-round telephone book recycling will make the program more convenient for citizens allow us to continue to increase our collection rate."
In the past, Wake County offered drop-off sites during a three-month period when telephone books were delivered. Over the last several years, directory distribution has increased and become a year-round process. The County has decided to expand the program at existing facilities, to keep pace with the market, giving residents and businesses the opportunity to recycle telephone books at anytime. This year’s product stewardship sponsors are AT&T Yellow Pages and R.H. Donnelley (the publisher of Embarq Yellow Pages). Both companies are promoting the recycling sites in their respective directories.
