Citizens Invited To Public Meetings On New Wake County Justice Center Plans
2/18/2008
Wake County officials invite citizens to attend one of four public meetings in February on the new Wake County Justice Center design. The informational meetings are being held to give interested residents an opportunity to view designs, discuss programs and building features, and provide feedback with County officials and the design team.
The new Justice Center will increase needed judicial capacity with new criminal courtrooms, Clerk of Court offices, and Public Defender and District Attorney offices. The new Center will also provide expanded space for County public records, including the Register of Deeds, Revenue, and GIS mapping departments, as well as the County Commissioners meeting room and County administration offices.
The construction process for the Justice Center at the intersections of McDowell, Martin and Salisbury streets in downtown Raleigh is slated to begin in 2009, and the Center is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2013.
"We invite the public to come see the proposed design and discuss how this state-of-the-art Justice Center will serve our community for the next 30 to 50 years," said Phil Stout, director of Wake County Facilities Design & Construction department. "With rapid growth expected to continue in Wake County, we are planning a facility that will meet the long-term judicial, public records and county administration needs of our citizens."
The public meetings will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.
