Begins Monday, June 1, 2009 – Teen Summer Reading Contest
Beginning in June, Wake County teens ages 12-18 are invited to take part in the Summer Reading program. Students will earn tickets that can be redeemed for prizes, including books, coupons to local eateries, art supplies, board games and other goodies. One ticket is earned for every two hours of reading. Visit a local library to register and receive a Summer Contest Kit.
Tuesday, June 9, 7-8 p.m. – Foreclosure Prevention
Homeowners are invited to a foreclosure prevention workshop to get housing counseling and learn how to prevent the loss of their home. The workshop will show homeowners what to do when they’re having difficulty making payments, and will also discuss assessing current finances, developing budgets, and avoiding predatory lenders and home-equity fraud. Tuesday, June 16, 7-8:30 p.m. – Green Road Readers
Citizens are invited to join the Green Road Readers nonfiction Book Club and enjoy reading a variety of nonfiction selections together. The group meets every third Tuesday evening at the Green Road Community Center, adjacent to the Green Road library. For information, call 790-3200. Wednesday, June 17, 3-4 p.m. – Carnival of Fun
Students grades K-5 are invited to help kick off summer reading fun at Southeast Regional Library. Kids can get their artistic juices flowing by learning the art of magic, juggling and weaving. Wednesday, June 17, 6:30-8 p.m. – Acupuncture, Everything You Want to Know
Learn the basic principles of acupuncture and how this ancient practice can treat many ailments and disorders by attending a workshop at Cameron Village Regional Library. Wednesday, June 24, 11 a.m.- noon – Yoga Fun
Have fun while learning the art of yoga. Participants will be taught how to safely practice yoga breathing and movements while seated. Wednesday, June 24, 6 p.m. – Wizard Rock
Experience the genre of Wizard Rock by attending a concert at Cameron Village Regional Library. Wizard Rock is a form of music inspired by the Harry Potter series.
