NEWS: Wake Reopens Beaverdam Beach Swimming Area, 07/03/2009
Wake County has reopened the recreational swimming area at Beaverdam Beach at Falls Lake. The beach was closed Wednesday, July 1, 2009, due to elevated levels of the E. coli bacteria, but was reopened today, July 3, 2009, after bacteria levels tested within Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards for two consecutive days.

During stimulus update, the board provided feedback on the competitive Carolinas Blue Skies & Green Jobs Initiative grant that has been applied for, but not awarded. With temperatures on a downward march, Wake County Human Services is reminding all of those living in the County that agencies providing shelter for homeless individuals will implement the "White Flag" system whenever the temperature is projected to be 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below any time between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., or when there is heavy or steady precipitation and the temperature is projected to be 38 degrees Fahrenheit or below between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Late last fall the County’s EMS Department began training 17 experienced paramedics for APP. Participants received intense classroom and clinical training to prepare them to operate as single paramedics in cars equipped with EMS equipment.  APP launched January 5, 2009.
