Electronic Information Center History
The Electronic Information Center (EIC) opened Monday, March 17, 1997. It was the first branch of the library system to offer public Internet access. The EIC is located at the site of two previous downtown libraries, the Business and Professional Library and the Downtown Popular Lending Library.
Funded in part by a grant from MCI Communications Corporation, the center provides a variety of electronic resources – Internet access, electronic resources, word processing and spreadsheet applications. The EIC houses a small collection of books comprised of current and recent bestsellers and the branch staff provides the library system's email and telephone reference service.
