Driving Directions

Directions provided by the Wake County Bar Association:

The Wake County Courthouse is located at 316 Fayetteville St. in downtown Raleigh, three blocks south of the Capitol. Directly across from the Salisbury Street (rear) Courthouse entrance is the Wake County Parking Deck; this parking deck fills up early on weekdays, typically by 8:30 a.m.; however, some parking is usually available during the day. If the Wake County Parking Deck is unavailable, you may continue traveling South on Salisbury Street to the next intersection (Davie Street) and turn left. Several parking lots are available on Davie Street or on Wilmington Street, which intersects Davie Street.

On US 1 and US 401 North (Capital Boulevard)

Travel South, cross over I-440 (the Beltline) and pass exits over Atlantic Avenue, Old Wake Forest Road and Wade Avenue. As you pass the Peace Street exit you will be on the northern edge of downtown; the name of Capital Boulevard changes to Dawson Street. Proceed through the next six (6) intersections, and the seventh intersection will be Martin Street. Turn left, go 2 blocks to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On US 64 East (New Bern Avenue)

Travel west, cross over I-440 (the Beltline) and proceed into the downtown area. At Tarboro Street, the name of New Bern Avenue changes to Edenton Street. Proceed from Tarboro Street until the State Capitol is on your left; the next cross street is Salisbury Street. Turn left, go 2 blocks to the intersection with Martin Street. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left after Martin Street.

On I-40 East

Proceed north to the intersection with I-440 (the Beltline) and merge left to take I-440 West; pass exits for Rock Quarry Road and Hammond Road, and exit right onto Saunders Street and head toward the downtown area. Cross South Street, Lenoir Street, Cabarrus Street, Davie Street to the intersection with Martin Street. Turn right, go 1 block to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On U.S. 70 East and N.C. 50 South

Proceed north to the intersection with U.S. 401, bear right and continue. Cross under I-440 (the Beltline) and proceed into the downtown area. The street you are traveling on is Saunders Street. Cross South Street, Lenoir Street, Cabarrus Street, Davie Street to the intersection with Martin Street. Turn right, go 1 block to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On U.S. 401 South

Proceed north to intersection with U.S. 70 and N.C. 50, bear left and continue. Cross under I-440 (the Beltline) and proceed into the downtown area. The street you are traveling on is Saunders Street. Cross South Street, Lenoir Street, Cabarrus Street, Davie Street to the intersection with Martin Street. Turn right, go 1 block to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On U.S. 1 South

Proceed north to the intersection with I-440 (the Beltline) and turn right to enter I-440. Pass exits for Gorman Street, Lake Wheeler Road, cross over South Saunders Street and exit right to get down to South Saunders Street. Turn right to enter South Saunders Street and proceed north. Cross South Street, Lenoir Street, Cabarrus Street, Davie Street to the intersection with Martin Street. Turn right, go 1 block to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On U.S. 64 West

Proceed east to intersection with U.S. 1 South; go under U.S. 1 and bear left to merge with U.S. 1; proceed north to intersection with I-440 (the Beltline) and turn right to enter I-440; pass exits for Gorman Street, Lake Wheeler Road, cross over South Saunders Street and exit right to get down to South Saunders Street; turn right to enter South Saunders Street. Proceed north and cross South Street, Lenoir Street, Cabarrus Street, Davie Street to the intersection with Martin Street. Turn right, go 1 block to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On I-40 West

Proceed east and bear right at intersection where I-440 goes left; proceed on I-40 which is named Wade Avenue when it enters Raleigh. Cross Dixie Trail, Brooks Avenue, Canterbury Road, Oberlin Road, St. Mary's Street; pass under Glenwood Avenue; bear right to leave Wade Avenue and merge with Capital Boulevard. Pass Peace Street exit and you will be on the northern edge of downtown; the name of Capital Boulevard changes to Dawson Street. Proceed through six (6) intersections, and the seventh intersection will be with Martin Street. Turn left, go 2 blocks to Salisbury Street and turn right. The Wake County Courthouse is the second building on the left.

On U.S. 70 West

Proceed east, cross under I-440 (the Beltline) and the street name of the road you are traveling on is Glenwood Avenue; pass Oberlin Road and St. Mary's Street, and proceed through Five Points intersection. Pass over Wade Avenue and immediately exit right and enter Wade Avenue. Travel under Glenwood Avenue; bear right to leave Wade Avenue, and merge with Capital Boulevard; pass Peace Street exit and you will be on the northern edge of downtown; the name of Capital Boulevard changes to Dawson Street. Proceed through six (6) intersections, and the seventh intersection will be with Martin Street. Turn left, go 2 blocks to Salisbury Street and turn right. On N.C. 50 North

Proceed south to intersection with U.S. 70 (which is named Glenwood Avenue); turn left to travel on Glenwood Avenue; cross under I-440 (the Beltline); pass Oberlin Road and St. Mary's Street, and proceed through Five Points intersection. Pass over Wade Avenue and immediately exit right and enter Wade Avenue.
