- History Corner
Selected Thursdays from 4:15-5 p.m. Children ages 5-8 are invited to learn about North Carolina history through stories and activities. Presented with the North Carolina Museum of History.
- November 6 – Digging Up the Past: Get your hands dirty and learn some history! Discover what archaeology can teach us about people who lived long ago.
- December 4 – First Flight: Celebrate the 105th anniversary of the Wright brother’s first flight and take a look at other North Carolina contributions to aviation.

- Pole Gallery art exhibit (All Ages)
Open through the month of October Come to the library for this family event and experience a new kind of art. Eva Perry has teamed up with Apex High School art students under the direction of art teacher Ian Sands for an art exhibit unlike anything you have seen before! Mr. Sands has created a type of art called a Pole Gallery. The art exhibit will show pieces of art attached to three, 6-foot-long, stand-alone fence segments. - 4th- and 5th-Grade Book Club (4th and 5th grade)
2nd Friday of the month, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Next meetings November 14 and December 12. Try our book club just for 4th- and 5th-graders! Read a book we suggest or one with a similar theme, then come and join us for a snack and discussion. Preregister at the Youth Services desk or by calling 919-387-2100. - Folktale Fun (Kindergarten to 2nd Grade)

- Ballet Beginnings (Grades 1 to 5)
Saturday, October 18, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Do you love the Royal Ballet School series? Do you want to learn ballet? Come and join us to learn the basics of ballet, so you too can follow along with some of your favorite RBS characters. - Come to the Movies! (All ages)
Sunday, October 19, 2:30 p.m. See an animated favorite about a curious monkey. No registration required, but seating is limited. Free tickets will be available at the Youth Services Desk beginning at 2:15 p.m.
- Bookmaking: A Make and Take Craft (Grades 3 to 5)
The same program will be offered on selected Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Make your own book! After you take it home and write your own story, you can bring it back to the library to be displayed! Please preregister for this program at the Youth Services Desk or by calling 919-387-2100.

- Coming to the New World (Grades 3 to 5)
Saturday, November 8, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. What would you pack in your trunk? This family program will show you what it is like for the first settlers of what is now the United States. - Winter Reading Challenge (Up to and including age 12)
November 30 to January 31 Come to the Youth Services Desk beginning November 30 to pick up your Winter Reading information.
- Make a Gingerbread House (Kindergarten and up with parent)
Two sessions, both on Saturday, December 20, at 10:15 or 11:15 a.m. Bring an empty 1-pint milk or half and half container to the library, and transform it into a beautiful graham cracker "gingerbread" house at this program. All other supplies are provided. Please preregister for this program at the Youth Services Desk or by calling 919-387-2100. Registration begins November 29.

- The State of Matter: A Cool Chemistry Program for Kids (Grades 3 and up)

Wednesday, October 22, at 7 p.m. The Raleigh Dance Theatre will be presenting a 30-minute production of Fancy Nancy Bonjour, Butterfly. No registration is required. All ages are welcome.

Winning artists and their families will be invited to a special celebration at their library to receive the first copies of their winning bookmarks. Judges are looking for an original, creative bookmark using our theme of “Stories Under the Stars.” Turn in your designs at either library. Print the entry form. THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2008.
