Fines
Wake County Public Libraries charge overdue fines for the primary purpose of encouraging our customers to bring the books back. Most books are checked out for 21 days; new fiction and some best-sellers circulate for seven days. After the due date, fines accrue at the rate of 10 cents per day per book, to a maximum of $2 per book. So that the cost of overdue books does not discourage anyone from bringing back the books, the maximum amount that can be charged to a patron's account is $10 (regardless of the number of books borrowed).
If a book is lost or damaged, the charge to the patron is the cost to replace the book.
To avoid fines, renew your checked-out item by the due date.
Interlibrary Loan Materials
Overdue fines for books obtained through InterLibrary loan are 25 cents per day, with no grace period. If an ILL book is lost, the patron is expected to pay the lender's charges for replacement.
