Celebrate Black History Month! Wake County Public Libraries and Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space are partnering to provide an array of free, fun and cultural events in celebration of Black History Month. Events will take place at two sites in the Wake County Office Park, the Wake County Commons Building and Historic Oak View County Park .
A haywagon shuttle will circle continuously to both sites. Be sure to check out all events at each location!

Martin Luther King, Jr. All Children’s Choir | In addition to the performances, there will be activities throughout the day including children’s quilting crafts, a quiz wheel, musical and dance performances, Nigerian fashions and more. Librarians will make presentations on genealogy and the Mollie Houston Lee Collection. Local authors Eleanora Tate and Jacquelin Thomas will also make presentations.
At Historic Oak View County Park:
- 12 - 3 p.m. – Shaw University Radio WSHA-FM 88.9 live music and jam session
- African cuisine for sale from Mawa’s Taste of Africa
