2008 Wake Reads Together

Wake Reads Together 2009 is Postponed

As a result of budget reductions and the expected revenue shortfall for the fiscal year, libraries have been asked to reduce the operating budget for the remainder of 2008/2009. One of the items that we have decided to cut is the Wake Reads Together 2009 program.

Wake Reads Together is a community wide reading initiative that encourages all residents of Wake County to read the same book at the same time and then come together for book discussions and ancillary programs.  This year’s selection, as elected by Wake County Public Library readers was to feature an adult book, A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, and a children’s book, My Side of the Mountain, by Jean George using the theme of the great outdoors and the environment.

Library staff across the county encourages readers to read and enjoy both books and to create your own book discussions and chat groups.  The library owns multiple copies of both books but will not be budgeting programming support for the series. Library staff plans to evaluate the program and regroup for the future.
