Recent Programs and Accomplishments

Programs:

• Battle for Falls Lake, by local author Janet Steddum
• Cookin’ with Kids, in celebration of the Library’s 11th birthday. Featured guests included: Roosevelt Pitt Jr., author of Food Adventures with Charles the Chef, and Adrianna Montgomery, grand-prize winner in last year’s Red Robin gourmet burger recipe contest for kids.
• Fall Planting Tips, by Maggie Terry, owner of VisionScapes Landscaping and Design
• Poetry for All Ages, by Alice Osborn, Anne Flick and Hannah Moyles
• Gardening with Children, with Ann Hardesty, a retired school teacher, and Master Gardeners Lynda Creutzburg and John Pelosi
• All on Account of You, A True WWII Love Story, a multimedia presentation by book author Elaine Klonicki.

Accomplishments:

• Received an Honorable Mention in this year’s Frances B. Reid awards competition, which is sponsored by the Friends of the North Carolina Libraries.
• Pledged $5,000 to the library for purchasing furniture and fixtures for the Teen Corner.
• The 2008 Book Sale, our most important fundraising event, raised more than $4,000.
• Marched in the Wake Forest Christmas Parade along with the Wake County Bookmobile.
• Provided treat bags for the library’s Family Halloween Party.
• In December 2006, the Friends Board of Directors, with the approval of the Library Administration, began selling tote bags to raise additional money. To date, we have sold more than 450 bags.
• Continue to provide maps of the Town of Wake Forest to library patrons who are new to the area.
• Sponsored the Teen Library Corps Pizza Party to thank the members for their volunteer service to the library. Members received book store gift certificates.
• Hosted the Library Staff Appreciation Dinner.
• Due to a generous donation from the Wake Forest Quilting Friends, we were able to raise an unexpected $1,000 with a quilt raffle.
• Provided financial support for the following library programs: Pizza and Pages (teen book club), Adult Book Club, and the Holiday Gingerbread House Program.
