History
In 1995, the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners appointed Connie Nourse, Recca Nelson, Beverly Boan, Frank Payne, Julian Prosser, Ted Eagy, Alan Tuttle and Greg McCraw to serve as a Library Advisory Group. The group was charged with “looking after the interest of the citizens of Wake Forest and the greater Wake Forest area in any way the group deemed necessary, to the best of its ability, and that one of its duties be to start a Friends of the Library organization so that when the group is no longer necessary, then the Friends of the Library organization would take its place.” They were also responsible for creating a suitable memorial for Mr. H.L. Miller, who had bequeathed a substantial sum of money for a library and who was a prominent local businessman and community leader. This group met once a month for a year. In June 1996 the first Friends of the Library meeting was held. Officers of the original Board of Directors were Connie Nourse, President; Peggy Allen, Secretary; and Robert Reckenbeil, Treasurer. A lot of time has passed and the Board has had many officers, but these charter members did so much to advance the quality of the library we have today. We owe them all a big debt of gratitude.
