Elizabeth Davis Reid Murray, a longtime supporter of Wake County Public Libraries, died on March 13, 2014. Mrs. Murray was born on June 10, 1925 in Wadesboro, N.C., but she spent the majority of her life living in Wake County dedicating herself to documenting and preserving Wake County history.

In 2006, Mrs. Murray donated her entire collection of manuscripts, slides, postcards, and photographs to the Olivia Raney Local History Library. The collection spans from 1965-2004 and created the largest archival collection in the WCPL system. As recently as April 2013 she was the guest of honor at a local history tea party at the library. The event, in celebration of Raleigh History Month, honored her contributions and commitment to chronicling local history.

In addition to her generous gift, Mrs. Murray was on the WCPL planning committee for the reopening of the Olivia Raney Local History Library in 1996, and was a Library Trustee for many years.

She was the author of Wake: Capital County of North Carolina, Vol. I and the co-author of Wake: Capital County of North Carolina, Vol. II. The titles can be purchased at the Olivia Raney Local History Library.
