Work Schedule/Location: Flexible schedule to be determined/Animal Control, Care and Adoption Center (820 Beacon Lake Drive, Raleigh, NC)  

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Office Administration or related field and two years of experience in administrative support; or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Animal Science, Education or Environmental Studies; experience coordinating the efforts of volunteers, preferably in an animal shelter environment; experience planning special events; experience with program and event marketing; experience developing and organizing training programs; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher; ability to multi-task and perform routine duties with minimal supervision; ability to create a strong sense of teamwork.

Duties: Coordinate the activities of dedicated volunteers at the Wake County Animal Center and at off-site events; report directly to the Director of the Animal Care, Control and Adoption Center and coordinate on a daily basis with the Shelter Team, the Customer Service Manager and the Team Leader for Animal Control; prepare a business plan for the volunteer program; identify goals and objectives for the program and the resource requirements necessary to achieve success; serve as the responsible party for all aspects of volunteer recruitment, development, training and retention as well as coordinating daily communications with Shelter staff; assume a leadership role at the Shelter for increasing the rates of successful animal adoptions to responsible pet owners as well as increasing public awareness about responsible pet ownership.

Notes:  20 hours per week. Duration of the position is to be determined.  This is a temporary position.

Typing Test Information

(For positions that specifically state Test Required)

ALL candidates who would like to be considered for a position must take the required typing test.

The applicant is responsible for ensuring that Wake County Human Resources receives completed typing test documentation by the position's closing date. Failure to complete the required typing test by the position closing date will eliminate you from further consideration for the desired position.

Applicants may take a typing test at any testing center (i.e., Employment Security Commission, Temporary Staffing Office, Career Development Center, etc.) that can provide documentation of typing words-per-minute (wpm) speed. If taken at any other location besides the Wake County Human Resources Office, the typing test results must be submitted on company letterhead and must indicate test date, typing wpm, and contact person. Typing test results will not be considered valid without proper documentation.

If completing the typing test in the Wake County Human Resources Office, applicants must contact Human Resources by calling (919) 856-6090 to schedule the typing test. The Human Resources Department is located in the Wake County Office Building, Suite 300, 336 Fayetteville Street Mall, Raleigh, NC.

Applicants may re-test and submit a new test score per day, until satisfied. The most recent score, which is received by Wake County Human Resources and regardless of test results, will remain on file for (6) months.
