Question:

What is impervious surface?

Answer:

Any surface that does not absorb rainwater such as the roofline on a house or accessory building, sidewalks, driveways, porches, etc. Even a gravel or dirt driveway is considered impervious due to the compaction that occurs from vehicle traffic. Decks are not included in impervious due to the gaps between decking boards and the pervious ground below the deck.

How do I calculate impervious surface?

Answer:

Add the area of each impervious surface for a total; for permitting purposes these should be individually itemized.

What is an as-built survey?

Answer:

This is a document prepared by a licensed land surveyor showing all structures on a property, their location on the property with dimensions to property lines, and the impervious surfaces on the property.

When is an as-built survey required?

Answer:

Any time a permit is issued for work subject to land use approval that is in the Swift Creek Watershed.
