The theme of this year’s annual report—Planning, Leading, Achieving—captures the Board of Commissioners’ dedication to diligent governing. Together, with the citizens of Wake County and our many partners, we carefully prepare for the future, combine efforts and obtain our objectives. Many of you hear about Wake County when there is a big announcement or a story on the evening news. These pages provide a glimpse at some of the significant efforts behind the scenes of your government. It’s our job to provide safety, care and fiscal strength, supporting you during good times and bad times, as you carry on with your lives at work and at home. It is critical that we maintain our status as one of the best managed and most desirable places to live in the Country, and with this distinction comes responsibility. Wake County continues to be a leader among large, urbanizing counties, both in North Carolina and the nation, and we embrace this growth challenge for the opportunities it provides to our countywide community. The late Sir Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of England, once said “It is no use saying ‘we are doing our best.’ You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.” As our population reaches 870,000 rest assured that your Board of Commissioners, countywide partners, volunteers and staff members, will succeed in the necessary work of Planning for the future, Leading the way through adversity and challenge, and Achieving our aims for the good of this great County. Thank you for allowing us to serve you, |
