Medicaid is a health insurance program that serves children, adults and families.

Family and Children's Medicaid covers children, parents, pregnant women and family planning services. Adult Medicaid covers aged, blind and disabled individuals.

Medicaid for Coronavirus (MCV)

The NC Department of Health and Human Services has launched a new Medicaid program that provides limited benefits for paying for COVID-19 testing. This new program will cover testing costs up to three months prior to your application, but no earlier than June 1, 2020. It will not pay for any other medical costs.

Applicants must:

  • Live in North Carolina;
  • Be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or have eligible immigration status; and
  • Not be covered by Medicaid, Medicare or other health insurance.

Wake County will not be processing the applications. All residents must apply through NC DHHS.

There are several ways to find a Medicaid doctor, dentist or other medical provider. Before you make 

an appointment, be sure to ask if the provider still takes Medicaid patients. The NC Department of Health and Human Services maintains several Medicaid Provider Lists including primary care providers, dentists, mental health providers and
Medicaid specialists.
