Homeownership
First Steps
- How do you determine if you are ready for homeownership?
- Some questions that you may begin to ask yourself would be:
- Do I have a steady source of income?
- Have I been employed on a regular basis for the last 2 to 3 years?
- Do I have a good credit record of paying my bills?
- What are my long-term credit obligations? (automobile payments, college loans)
- Do I have money saved for a down payment?
- Do I have the ability to pay a mortgage every month, plus the additional costs associated with owning a home?
- After paying my monthly mortgage and my other bills, would I have enough money left over to live comfortably?
The answers to some of these questions can be obtained by attending a comprehensive homebuyers' workshop, "A Beginner's Guide For Homebuying," held monthly at the McKimmon Center on the campus of NC State University. There you will learn about homebuying basics and the steps to homeownership. Fax your workshop registration to 919-856-6500. You may call 919-856-6116 to register by phone.
