Homeownership

First Steps
How do you determine if you are ready for homeownership?

Some questions that you may begin to ask yourself would be:
Do I have a steady source of income?
Have I been employed on a regular basis for the last 2 to 3 years?
Do I have a good credit record of paying my bills?
What are my long-term credit obligations? (automobile payments, college loans)
Do I have money save for a down payment?
Do I have the ability to pay a mortgage every month, plus the additional costs associated with owning a home?
After paying my monthly mortgage and my other bills would I have enough money left over to live comfortably?

The answers to some of these questions could be obtained by attending a comprehensive homebuyers workshop, "A Beginner's Guide For Homebuying", held monthly at the McKimmon Center on the campus of NC State University. There you will learn about homebuying basics and the steps to homeownershipRegistrations for the workshop can be made by faxing the workshop registrations to 856-6500. You may call 856-6116 to register by phone.
