Public Housing Program

Public housing is low-cost housing in multi-unit buildings that is available to low and very low-income individuals and families, including the elderly and disabled. Tenants in these buildings normally pay no more than 30 percent of their monthly income for rent. Eligibility requirements are based on income and household size, as well as other guidelines outlined by the agency. Two agencies, the Raleigh Housing Authority and Wake County Housing Authority, 919-269-6404, manage public housing units.

Section 8 Housing  Choice Voucher Program

Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers allow very low-income households to rent decent, safe and affordable housing in privately owned units. The Raleigh Housing Authority and Wake County Housing Authority, 919-269-6404, administer the Section 8 program.
