Affordable housing is a priority and the County is working with community
partners to bring more low-cost options to Wake County. As prices for homeownership and
rental units increase, it becomes harder for lower-income families to access affordable housing. Each year commissioners approve loans for the development of housing options designed for tenants who frequently have trouble finding housing, including senior citizens, disabled veterans and handicapped adults.
Wake County also offers a wide range of coordinated support services to help families and individuals who have reached an impasse in accessing or maintaining safe, decent, affordable housing. Our strategy is prevention-focused with strong emphasis on outreach, education and person-centered goals, to assist families and individuals who are at risk of cycling between homelessness, emergency and institutional systems without both affordable permanent housing or support services.
