Wake County Housing and Community Revitalization Division (HCR) assists the towns of Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon with funding for community development projects and public facilities and infrastructure in low income neighborhoods.  The County assistance comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the form of a grant known as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).  The towns are required to contribute a 20% match for Public Facility projects and a 75% match for buildings.

Each year, the towns consider projects that will benefit their communities. Our funding is able to help towns on a rotating basis, so that over a few years, we try to assist each community.

From July 2016 to June 2017, the following projects will be under construction:

Fuquay-Varina: Upgrade from 2" to 6" water lines on Bridge Street and increase water safety and paving of Southern Street for access

Morrisville: Construction of a sidewalk along Church Street that will connect residential neighborhoods with a school and connect to existing sidewalks

Wake Forest: Addition of a spray ground for water recreation at the Alston-Massenburg Community Center

Wendell: Installation of drainage and curb and gutter and paving of Lakewood Drive for access

Zebulon: Completion of a sidewalk connecting Zebulon Middle School with the new Boys and Girls Club. This portion of sidewalk will complete a project funded over several years.
