Wake County Housing and Community Revitalization Division (HCR) assists the towns of Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon with funding for community development projects and public facilities and infrastructure in low income neighborhoods. The County assistance comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in the form of a grant known as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The towns are required to contribute a 20% match for Public Facility projects and a 75% match for buildings.
Each year, the towns consider projects that will benefit their communities. Our funding is able to help towns on a rotating basis, so that over a few years, we try to assist each community.
From July 2012 to June 2013, the following projects will be under construction:
Fuquay-Varina: Upgrade to water lines in the Pine Acres Community to increase water pressure for safety
Garner: Construction of a neighborhood sidewalk for residents to walk to Garner Magnet High School and stores
Knightdale: Connection of an existing portion of a sidewalk from Knightdale Blvd. to Town Hall and the Library
Wendell: Connection of an existing portion of a sidewalk from an assisted living center to stores, Improving inadequate drainage along a residential street
Zebulon: Construction of a sidewalk from Zebulon Middle School to the new Boys and Girls Club
