Breast Cancer Action Network

The NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund provided funding to Wake County Human Services for addressing health disparities as it pertains to breast health. As a result of this partnership, a round table discussion comprised of community members was formed.  They identified the need to establish  formal network of community resources and a forum for assessing needs, developing collaborations, and advocacy. As a result the Breast Cancer Action Network (BCAN) was established.

Goals:

The initial goals of BCAN were to address key needs and/or challenges for underserved women, to develop strategies to assist providers, and to advocate for collaboration. BCAN now functions as a networking opportunity for Health Care providers and professionals who offer breast health services.

Accomplishments:

BCAN has successfully co-sponsored two Breast Health Conferences and created The Wake County Breast Health Resource Guide for health care providers and survivors living in Wake County. BCAN has also developed a Quick Reference for Breast Health Services for Providers to assist in scheduling referral services for uninsured women living in Wake County.

Membership:

BCAN is continuously looking for new members to help meet the needs of women in Wake County. If you or your agency/organization would like to join BCAN or promote your Breast Health program please email sarah.plentl@wakegov.com.

BCAN is sponsored by the Wake County Human Services - Healthy Women Healthy Wake Project funded by the Health and Wellness Trust Fund Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative.
