Enforcement of Child Support Orders
Establishing a child support order does not guarantee that the noncustodial parent will pay support. The agency uses the following remedies to ensure payment of support:
- Income Withholding: The employer is required to deduct a specific amount from the noncustodial parent's paycheck each pay period.
- Billing Statements: Monthly billing statements are sent when the noncustodial parent is self-employed or not under income withholding.
- Court Action (Show Cause): When the noncustodial parent is not paying support as ordered, he/she is required to come in to court and explain the reason for nonpayment.
- Liens: can be attached to real property owned by the noncustodial parent.
- Credit Bureau Reporting
- License Revocation
- Tax Intercept
