Teens and Adults Preventing Substance Abuse
Program Description
TAPS is a substance use prevention program for students at Wake Forest/Rolesville High School. Students receive valuable substance use prevention information in their 9th-grade healthful living classes or by joining the TAPS Leadership Club. The TAPS Leadership Club component functions after school with a focus on alcohol and other drug-abuse prevention and intervention. This club is an opportunity for the 9th-12th-grade students at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School to participate in substance use prevention peer education opportunities and leadership activities throughout the school year.
Program Duration
TAPS meets in alignment with the Wake Forest-Rolesville High School calendar.
Program Goals
The goals of the TAPS program include:
- Decreased substance experimentation and use
- Improved substance use resistance skills
- Increased leadership opportunities for youth
Criteria for Enrollment
The TAPS Leadership Club consists of 25 participants that must meet certain criteria, which include:
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA (if GPA falls below qualification during the year, a probationary period will be implemented until the next progress report distribution)
- Willingness to be trained in the area of substance-abuse prevention
- Commitment to maintain a drug-free lifestyle
- Desire to represent healthy lifestyle choices for teenagers
- Ability to adhere to confidentiality rules
Location of Service
TAPS is located at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School in the Health Education Building.
Program Operating Hours
Hours may vary, but for the most part they are Monday-Friday during the school day or after school.
