Poultry Science
NCSU Poultry Science Institute
NCSU hosts a Poultry Science Institute each summer and, for 2012, the dates are July 29 through August 2. Applications are due by May 2, 2012. See more information.
Youth Market Turkey Show
Registration for the Youth Market Turkey Show will open March 31, 2012. This is a statewide competition in which youth register to receive a turkey poult in early summer (provided free of charge) and then raise the turkey over the summer and into the fall. Turkeys are then entered into a competition at the NC State Fair in October and are judged on weight, muscling and care taken of the bird while in the youth's care. Turkeys are then returned to NCSU after the competition. Though there is no cost to the participant for the turkey poult, participants are responsible for the pickup and dropoff of their bird, as well as for the cost of feed, housing and upkeep while the bird is in the participant's care.
