This year the Wake County 4-H Summer Sleep-Away Camp Program will be returning to the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Reidsville, NC, from June 17 to June 22, 2012.

Wake County 4-H partners with the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Educational Center, located in Reidsville and operated by the Cooperative Extension Service through North Carolina State University, to provide this annual camp program. Highly trained 4-H professionals, recent college graduates and students staff the camp program. Camp specialists supervise activities such as swimming and horseback riding, where unique skills are needed. Accredited by the American Camping Association, the center provides continual supervision with one staff per eight campers to ensure an exceptional camp experience for your child.

Traditional Sleep-Away Camp for boys and girls ages 8–12 is $425.

Activities include: horseback riding, archery, arts and crafts, canoeing, teambuilding, recreational and instructional swimming, climbing wall, nature classes, challenge ropes courses, talent show, land and water sports event, dance, campfire and more!

Trekker Sleep-Away Camp for boys and girls ages 13–14

The Trekker experience for youth ages 13 to 14 is $445 and consists of teambuilding, high-ropes activities, paddling and climbing skills development to prepare for a two-day, one-night, off-site camping trip that includes canoeing on the Mayo River and rock-climbing at Pilot Mountain.

Adventure Sleep-Away Camp for boys and girls ages 12–14 is $425

Activities include: Most traditional camp experiences included. Orienteering using GPS/GIS and other outdoor living skills as preparation for a two-night outpost camping experience on Center property.


All Camp programs include: Transportation to and from camp, all meals, lodging, 4-H camp T-shirt, additional insurance and $15 to spend at the camp store!

Facilities: 250 wooded acres, 25-acre lake for canoeing and swimming, air-conditioned dining hall, large recreation hall, ball fields, campfire amphitheater, horse stables & riding ring, swimming pool and cabins with bathrooms and showers
