Wake 4-H Youth Development offers opportunities for youth and their families to spend time learning and growing together grow as a family.

4-H Strengthening Families  

Is a life skills program with fun and real life lessons for the whole family.   It is family focused and proven to lower high-risk behaviors, alcohol and drug abuse, and problems in school and the community.  Families spend quality time together working on family goals they create.

4-H Strengthening Families builds:
v  Better parenting skills
v  Leadership & Teamwork             
v  Helpful Communication Skills
v  Anger Management Skills
v  Healthy Decision Making

 

  To be in Strengthening Families, each family must:

v  Live in Wake County
v  Have at least one child between ages 6 to14 years
v  Meet with a staff member before the program begins
v  Complete enrollment forms and survey
v  Commit to attend one meeting each week for 9 or 15 weeks
     (from 5:15 – 8:00 p.m.)
v  Practice new skills they learn

4-H and Club CHOICE

Wake County 4-H works with health educators to provide wellness clubs for adults and youth as part of Human Capital Development. 

Club CHOICE is for youth ages 5 to 17 whose parents are in Club CHOICE and wellness activities through Human Capital Development.

 

4-H Staff teaches activities and healthy options to youth of different ages while their parents take part in club activities at Sunnybrook and Millbrook Human Services centers.

    Fun and engaging activities include:

¨      30 minutes of physical fitness they can do with parents for family wellness

¨      Creating daily food journals to track eating habits

¨      Learning how to read food labels

¨      Helping their parents plan well-balanced meals with fresh fruits and vegetables from local markets, gardens or farms

¨      Planning ways to do fun physical activities as a family

¨      Learning how to eat the right portion sizes
