A successful job search incorporates thoughtfully developed tools to effectively market individual skills, including targeted resumes and well-written cover letters, as well as an educated and strategic use of Internet job search resources, and creative and determined networking practices.

We highly recommend that individuals meet with an employment advisor, or take an HRD class on conducting a successful job search at Wake Technical Community College, to develop their individual job search strategy. The Career Center at Swinburne is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4:15 p.m., and on Tuesday evenings until 8 p.m. No appointment is required to register and use center resources; an appointment to meet one-on-one with an employment advisor can be scheduled during orientation (part of the initial career center registration process), or by calling 919-250-3770.

The Division of Workforce Solutions' (formerly Employment Security) NCWorks Online, the official state Labor Exchange system, provides online job search, posting and referral services. By completing a detailed profile on the JobConnector, individuals can be matched with positions that suit their skills, experience and stated career goals.
